Sticking with Texas, SEC whips ACC

Posted November 30, 2009

Florida, Alabama or Texas..Which one is number one?  46 AP voters picked the Gators while the Tide and Longhorns gathered 7 votes each. I'm one of the pollsters who chose Texas as the nation's top team.

I've had Texas at the top since October 31st and saw no reason to bump them down after winning at Texas A&M. Winning rival games on the road earns bonus points in my book. Yes, Alabama survived 26-20 at Auburn but I have them 3rd because I just feel Florida is better than the Tide. We'll find out this Saturday in the SEC championship game.

Texas will meet 9-3 Nebraska in the Big 12 title game. It'll be fun to watch Colt and Company go against the Huskers tough defense.

The ACC had a horrible week in the poll after the SEC treated the ACC like a red-headed stepchild. Georgia over Ga. Tech, Florida over Florida State and South Carolina over Clemson left the ACC with egg on it's face. Please, stop serving the Kool-Aid at the league's preseason kick-off.

Kudos to NC State with a win over rival North Carolina and special recognition to Wolfpack fans. You showed up and created an atmosphere at Carter-Finley. That would have been an easy game to just stay at home but Pack fans didn't. The Carter looked great on TV.

Quite a different story at Duke. I clicked over to see some of the Devils and Deacs and was disappointed in the turnout at Wallace Wade. Duke had a chance to finish 500 for the first time since 1994 and there were pockets of empty seats all over the stadium.

Back on course now...here's my AP football poll with one more week to go in the regular season. It won't look the same next week.
