Ol' Roy made heckler's day

So the heckler from Presbyterian was sitting in a section of tickets that are doled out with extreme caution by North Carolina. So UNC officials say the cops found the man drunk while sitting in the wrong seat. So maybe the rowdy fan said something beyond "miss it."

That's all well and good, but to channel Roy Williams for a moment, I could give a shhh...uhh...shampoo about probable causes and justifications. Ol' Roy made the mistake of engaging the fan and gave him exactly what he wanted. He went rom simple Blue Hose supporter to "King of the World!"

Bottom line -- the heckler won.

The guy from Presbyterian got a 2-time NCAA championship coach to turn around and get him tossed. Williams talked about not drawing attention to the fools who do things like streaking, but that's exactly what he did by exchanging words with a Blue Hose fan. Call security to the bench during a timeout or send an intern to tip public safety to the issue. However, never engage the fan. It's not a good look, no matter how much spin is applied.

RE: Ol' Roy made heckler's day

Not only has Ovies never contributed anything meanful, how low did WRALSportsfan.com stoop to sensationalize this as they have? This was nothing but a blatant attempt on their part to draw hits to this site. I have lost so much respect for WRAL for this.

As far as you, bdf, people 'rightlyfully' make comments, but Heels fans are not (rightfully) allowed to defend our coach??? Gimme a break. You'd be all over defending k. What did you have to say about k's shameful behavior towards the dook student newspaper staff?

If you REALLY believe this this guy's only trangression was to yell at Deon to miss a free throw, then you have gone off the deep end. Seriously??? Are you trying to tell me that you believe no opposing fan has ever yelled at a Carolina player to miss a free throw before?

No, the difference in Duke fans and UNC fans is that UNC fans defend UNC rightly or wrongly. I will defend K, but only if I think he is right.

I've disagreed with K several times. Again, had K done the exact same thing I would be embarrassed and upset. Fortunately, my coach does not pick fights with fans. He has much more integrity and professionalism.

Uh...no. Where in the world would you get that?

I get that from your criticism of Roy. If you don't think that is the first time an opposing fan has yelled something like that in the Dean Dome, then there MUST be more to the story than that. Since it has happened hundreds of times before, why would Roy chose this time and this fan to make a big deal about it? Any rational person (make that non-ABCer) would be asking themselves that question.

That is not good logic and you are making remarkable assumptions.

And you aren't making HUGE assumptions????

RE: Ol' Roy made heckler's day

On the news tonight they reported Roy had a similar problem during the Ohio State game -- fans seated behind his team and yelling at them. Oh, the nerve of some fans! I guess the UNC players need a dugout for basketball games to shield them from fans yelling, "miss it." Appears that shoulder surgery has gotten on Roy's last nerve.

RE: Ol' Roy made heckler's day

It's not anti-UNC to say the heckler won. He did. He made Roy Williams look like even more of a jackazz than he already is. That's quite an accomplishment!

I can only imagine what you Holes would be saying if Sidney Lowe had a fan ejected from a State game. Oh the humanity!

Depending on the circumstances (and once again, no one knows the circumstances from Saturday), that's not necessarily the case. If Lowe had a legitimate reason for wanting someone punted out of the RBC, I'd say good for him. Since I wasn't at Saturday's game, I don't really know what led up to the man being tossed. I do have a friend who works UNC security though. Maybe I can find out from him.

Yes I know caue I read it on the other blog. I'm sure this guy working one of the gates will tell it all and especially represent the PC fan to his utmost.

RE: Ol' Roy made heckler's day

Where was Roy to defend the Maryland player after the girl from Carolina yelled "Go back to the ghetto!" to one of the MD players a couple of years ago when they lost in the Dean Dome?
