Williams has no defense this time

The building is named for Dean Smith, but for the moment it belongs to Roy Williams.

That much was evident Saturday night. Roy Williams was irked that Presbyterian College fan Brian King shouted at Deon Thompson to miss a free throw. Williams motioned to security to follow up and it's hard to tell from the WRAL video exactly what he said.

And King, when I interviewed him Monday morning, thought he remembered the security guards telling him it was “Roy’s house” and that Roy got what he wanted, but he said he was so embarrassed at the time he couldn’t remember their exact words.

Heck, who knows who said exactly what. But this much is clear – Williams wanted King to “shut up” and made sure he did.

King is hardly without blame. In talking to him Monday, he clearly would love for this to just go away. But Williams comes across as a heavy-handed coach who uses his power to get what he wants, even over fans.

Williams was hardly recalcitrant after the game. He wouldn’t speak much about it to the media and said he wouldn’t allow fans to “talk negative” about his players.

So ... does that mean he thinks N.C. State fans should get thrown out of the Smith Center? Or Duke fans? Or what if some wild and crazy Marshall fans come to the Smith Center Dec. 22?

You can’t tell a fan who paid for a ticket what he can or can’t say, as long as the fan isn’t profane or racist or lewd.

Williams’ basketball teams are known for their defense. But Williams is staking out a position even he can’t possibly defend.

This is a wimpy move from a wimpy coach for a wimpy sport on a wimpy campus. How is basketball a sport when you cant touch anyone . Its a game like checkers, monopoly and tiddly winks. Go support real sports like football, rugby and hockey. Carolina will always be great at basketball because like I said its a wimpy sport.

"I tired of the local media reporting and letting this Presbyterian fan claim he was not drunk. That fool was at Four Corners prior to the game and was the drunkest, loudest, most obnoxoius person I've ever seen in Chapel Hill. When I woke up Sunday morning and read the headline I wondered what the chances were that the same drunk Presbyterian fan in the bar was the same guy Roy kicked out of the game. I couldn't believe it when I saw the video, it was the same guy. He was drunk."

But State and Dook fans don't want to hear anything that might interfere with their smear campaign. Let it go WRAL. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.
