ACC Tournament is wide open for another Pack run

If this ACC season has told us anything, it's that everyone is beatable.

Boston College is only 15-15 on the season but crunched Virginia Tech by 20 this season. Miami finished in last place, but even it beat Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest this year.

N.C. State even beat two teams that received first-round byes. The Pack stomped top seeded Duke by 14 at home. Scott Wood went off for 31 points in a win at Florida State.

Wolfpack head coach Sidney Lowe was asked during his weekly teleconference if he thinks this year's tournament is completely wide open.

"I think so, you look all throughout the year in our conference at some of the wins that the lower seed teams have had this year. Certainly any team is capable of beating the other in our conference," Lowe said. "You just mention the wins that we've had and the close games that we've had. It can happen. It's just that one night."

But like in 2007, one night turned into two nights. Then two nights turned into three nights. And Cinderella didn't make it home by midnight on the fourth night.

Looking back on N.C. State's 89-80 loss to North Carolina in the tournament championship, Lowe doesn't have any regrets. He noted that his options were thin having only six players on scholarship at the time. Freshman Dennis Horner, and walk-on Bryan Nieman were the only two players to get minutes off the bench in the championship game.

"Definitely substituting more would be something that we could do. And we've been doing that pretty much the last five ball games or so, really trying to keep guys fresh."

This season Lowe has not been afraid to use his bench, at times using as many as 10 players in his rotation. Richard Howell, Josh Davis, C.J. Williams and Julius Mays will all expect to see minutes this week.
