Haven't seen this from Dawkins yet
Mar 15, 2010
Uhhhhh, where has that drive been all year long? With just under four minutes to go in the first half of Sunday's ACC Championship game Andre Dawkins decided against the usual.
What he usually does is always look for the next chance to fire up his next three-pointer. But this time he pump-faked his defender at the top of the key, drove into the lane, took off from around the dotted line and slammed it home with one hand.
I got a chance to ask him about that aggressive play after the game. He said he didn't realize he was going to be able to dunk the ball when he first started his dribble. Dawkins ended up with seven points. He had that dunk and nailed two jumpers and played big minutes when Nolan Smith had foul trouble in the first half.
Dawkins has attempted 132 shots this season, 91 of them three's. I wouldn't mind seeing more two-pointers from Dawkins in the future.
Just remember, he's one of the most athletic player's on the team. Just take a look at what he was doing pre-Duke. We just haven't seen a ton of it here.
