What a 96 team NCAA bracket would look like
Mar 17, 2010
The assumption is that the 2010 edition of March Madness will be the end of the NCAA Tournament as we know and love it. While everyone questions the logistics of folding the NIT to create a 96 team field, there has been one nagging issue that I've been harping on since the jump -- how will we fill out our brackets?
Darren Rovell tasked the CNBC graphics department to come up with an approximation of what could be used to fill out office pools across America. I'll say this, your office managers will need to stock up on legal-sized paper for printers and copiers.
Al Featherston at ACCSports.com took the speculation even further and applied a 96 team field to this season. Featherston includes the NIT entries that earned automatic bids, which consists of the seven conference regular season champions that lost their conference tournaments and did not get an NCAA bid. In order to make the rest of the field work, the lowest seeded NIT team was cut. So Northwestern, a 7th seed, had to get the boot. Congrats NC State, you made it in there thanks to your 6th seed in the NIT.
