Play hoops, avoid dragons in Coach K iPhone app
Mar 23, 2010
Browsing iTunes this morning, I noticed Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski now has his own iPhone app. Priced at $2.99, the simply titled "Coach K" game is above the impulse buy range of $.99. So there has to be more to this app than just a wonky basketball shooting contest inside a pseudo-Cameron, right?
Indeed. But the programmers of "Coach K" were on mind-altering substances when they coded the rest of the game.
After customizing your "avatar", players are challenged to dodge dragons and panda bears while speeding along the Great Wall of China. That's not a typo, it's an actual mission in the game and might explain why Brian Zoubek has improved this season. Rebounding against college players is a snap after practicing your technique against dragons underneath the basket.
The "Coach K" app is missing a few key features. For starters, there is no way to lob f-bombs at ACC officials. In the update, I would like to see a "Transfer Widget" that allows users to keep track of players who have left the program.
