Stackhouse says Wall has all the tools, but there is never a "no brainer"

It's that time of year where NBA front office executives earn their paychecks. Nobody wants to be forever remembered in water cooler discussions as the guys that drafted Sam Bowie ahead of Michael Jordan.

Fittingly MJ is now sort of remembered for draft busts like Kwame Brown and Adam Morrison.

Sure things are difficult to come by. LeBron James more than lived up to his hype. But several super-high draft picks don't. Like Michael Olowakandi, Stromile Swift, Pervis Ellison, Kent Benson, and many more.

"There's never a no-brainer but I think he has all of the tools, the checklist that you're looking for," Stackhouse told The Fan's Dave Shore at a Greater NC Pro-Am news conference in Durham (about 3:00 in). "He has the quickness, he has the toughness about him and has abilitiy to play big in big moments. All of those things are going to help him attain the success that he wants in the NBA."

But....

"There's never a no-brainer. We've seen guys like that before that we thought are sure shots, Harold Miner, names like that come to mind," Stackhouse said. "Then the next thing you know they're not able to do it. But being a guy from North Carolina that came up and rolled down these same roads I have, I wish him the best and hopefully he gets everything out of it that he wants."

Harold "Baby Jordan" Miner definitely did more dunking than anything else in his career. But even if John Wall ends up being a dud, which I don't think will happen, he does already have a $25 million shoe deal with Reebok.

You don't think there are any remnants of that John Wall dunk still playing in Stackhouse's comments do you? If you forgot, Wall created a YouTube storm when footage came out of the soon to be No. 1 pick dunking on Stackhouse at the Greater NC Pro-Am.

Stackhouse will be back in Durham this summer as the celebrity host of the event, now in its third year. N.C. Central's McDougald-McLendon Gymnasium will once again host the league, which features several pro, college and top-high school prospects from the area. Play begins July 1 and runs through August 8.

'never attend class..'

nice. and you know this because you were there shadowing him every day, right? or are you just jealous because no one in your entire life will offer you anything close to his offer?

yeah,, right. that's what i thought...

His "trouble with the law" consists of tresspassing in an old abandoned neighborhood house. Not exactly a problem child in my book. His major could have been the easiest at UK to get through. He knew he was one and done and could have quit attending after the 2nd quarter. But he finished the last two quarters out and had the highest GPA on the team. That was unexpected because everyone expected him to take the easiest path.

As a freshman, he probably didn't even have a major yet. 1st year classes are the easiest no matter where you go. His grades shouldn't suprise anyone.

Unbelievable how a kid can get a full scholarship to a major university like Kentucky...never attend class..play one season and then get a 25 million tennis shoe contract before even stepping foot onto a NBA basketball court. Then you think about all the people out here today working hard and struggling to make ends meet, trying to raise families and do it the right way without taking any shortcuts or living off the system. And yet, if you can shoot a basketball through a hoop, you're an instant millionare. Think about it long enough and it kind of makes your stomach upset.

Don't be mad. Should have worked on your jumper instead of being angry all the time.

The American model: Sports fans are paying the salaries of professional athletes. - It is all voluntary.

Most of our teachers are paid from tax revenues which is not always voluntary. If teachers want more money they must exercise other talents or other jobs.

Thus endeth the sermon from a College of Education dropout.
