Report: Alabama's Dareus declared ineligible over agent trip
Jul 21, 2010
The Tuscaloosa News is reporting that University of Alabama defensive end Marcell Dareus has been declared ineligible and is believed to be the only UA player who attended a party in Miami hosted by a sports agent.
Alabama is expected to petition for Dareus' reinstatement immediately.

I applaud Alambama for cutting this guy loose. Now if Butch had any integrety he would do the same to Marvin.Or did the NCAA declare him ineligible?

- Posted by Hokie 94I usually like what you write on here, but in this case Austin and a few others let the twetter seal the deal. The agent is way stupid too. They are guilty and should pay the consequences. Suspension is the only way. I am glad that the NCAA is cracking down on these people.I have a question for NCAA aficionados out there. Many of the players involved in this week's speculation seem to have attended a party in Miami, which was presumably hosted by an agent. One has now been declared ineligible. What, exactly, is the offense he was charged with?- Posted by Ken D.
If it is simply going to the party, and presumably drinking his free booze and eating his free food, why hasn't everyone who was there also been declared ineligible? If there is something more, what is it? Hotel bill? Transportation? Does it matter who pays? Greg Little's dad says he gave his son the money for the trip. If Marvin Austin went on the same dime, is he guilty of something? What if Austin stayed with a former teammate while he was in Miami? Is that wrong? What if it was his former roommate? Does that matter?
OK, so that's more than one question. My point is, if the NCAA has made it clear what's OK and what's not in cases like this, what's taking so long? And if they haven't (made it clear), why not?
What tweet are you referring to? There was one tweet suggesting Austin was "living at LIV" and the "bottles keep coming" or something like that. Sounds like he's boasting about living it up on somebody else's dime - presumably an agent.
In fact, that tweet was just quoting a line from a popular rap song, not a literal statement about what he, personally was doing. I don't know if he did anything wrong, and neither does anybody outside the NCAA at this point. My only question is, if being at the party in question is a violation, why has only one player been declared ineligible for it, when many were openly involved?

The NCAA must have several teams of people doing the deal. I am proud they are finally digging into the dirt of some of these fat cat players and agents. Some of these so called great athletes could not spell stupid.RE: Report: Alabama's Dareus declared ineligible over agent trip
