State's receivers not the best Williams has seen
Nov 19, 2010
For a school that doesn't care as much about the rivalry as N.C. State does, North Carolina doesn't shy away from pressing some of the Wolfpack's buttons.
Tar Heels safety Deunta Williams didn't on Thursday when he spoke with Adam Gold and Joe Ovies on 99.9 The Fan ESPN.
Williams will be facing a talented N.C. State receiving corps on Saturday consisting of big targets like Owen Spencer, Jarvis Williams and tight end George Bryan. Deunta said that Jarvis is the best receiver on N.C. State's team.
"The things that he can do, his ability to go up and above and get the ball, and just his body control is a little bit better than me. I compare Owen Spencer to J (Jheranie) Boyd. He's a fast receiver, he doesn't do a lot of double moves or precise routes but he's fast. In the blink of an eye he's by you, catching the ball and scoring. We just gotta try and get hands on them and stay over top of them."
Respectable comments coming from an opposing player just two days before a monumental game. But........Williams wasn't done.
"But I can't give these guys too much credit. I've seen better. You know I went against better with Hakeem [Nicks] and [Brandon] Tate everyday, and Brooks [Foster]. It's just like, okay, you guys are good, but I've seen something better than you."
Wow.
With that "but" Deunta Williams might have given a group of receivers one more reason to hone in on every catch, as if they needed one anyway.
It's also possible that Deunta heard what Jarvis told 99.9 back in August. He said he's getting the hang of beating UNC and if the Pack win this year "that'll be four in a row and that there says it's not a rivalry game no more."
