ACC on pace for lowest attendance in over 20 years

According to the USA Today, Average crowd size in the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pacific-10 and SEC is running 5% below final regular-season numbers in those leagues a year ago.

The ACC is on the verge of seeing their lowest attendance in decades. Currently averaging 9,634, the conference hasn't dipped below 10,000 since the 1988-89 season.

Officials will drag out the cliche reasons -- bad economy and the recent snowpocalypse -- but there are other, more realist reasons for the sag. The biggest one being Atlantic Coast Conference basketball just isn't very good.

But there is a larger issue at play. The basketball season starts while college football still dominates the headlines. Often those games are garbage non-conference tilts against directional schools, while the marquee non-conference games are being moved to larger venues. In short -- if college basketball knows what is good for them, they would tighten up the schedule and give customers more bang for their buck.

Hope Swofford is happy, more proof that he killed the ACC with his greed. Bring back the round-robin, make them play everyone home and home, too much fluff in their schedules anyway. Having 22 conference games still leaves them 6-8 games a year against all the longwoods, high points, or greensboros they want. The league has gone soft, look at how we compare to all the other conferences this year. Proof that a diet of cupcakes really does make you fat, lazy and soft. What are K and Roy so scared of?

You couldn't give me money to spend money on NC State basketball.

Not until..... well, you know. Still waiting for this season to end to see how certain things play out.
