Yates: Be patient with Bryn Renner

T.J. Yates had plenty of critics entering his senior season at North Carolina. From fans and to media, the common refrain was that the Tar Heels could be a dark horse title contender if Yates could just keep it between the ditches.
Yates understood the impatience, but he hopes the same group that went from detractors to supports don't jump to conclusions with his successor. Bryn Renner will move up to QB 1 next season, and the expectations will be high.
"I hope that Tar Heels fans will be patient," said Yates on 99.9 The Fan. "He's a young kid with so much talent and such tremendous upside, but you have to remember that he's never been in live game situations before."
The expectations exist because many felt Renner would eventually take the reigns last season. The coaching staff talked openly how he pushed Yates in the Spring and Fall. That caused many to tab Renner as "the real deal."
"People wanted him to play, and they're going to expect this All-World quarterback to step in and be amazing," said Yates. "I hope that's going to happen, but that's kind of unrealistic. He's got the ability to lead that team to great things, but it's not all going to happen in one season or one game."
Of course, Renner would have seen some live game action last season if it wasn't for Yates having a fantastic senior season.
"I guess the fans can blame me," joked Yates.

I understand TBK. After not landing a big fish in the coaching lake (despite your prowess at bass fishing), it is back to anything bad at UNC is as good as a State win. It's okay. Honestly, I appreciate the ABC mentality. No one hates teams that lose. Unless Gottfried messes it up, you guys should be the most loved team in North Carolina in a couple more years.

Sure you can. You could lose to EVERY team you play against, including all of those not named NC State. I'm sure Yates is disappointed in never being able to beat the Wolfpack, but I'll bet it doesn't keep him up at night. He probably prefers to remember the wins over Miami, FSU, VT, and Tennessee as games that define his time in Chapel Hill, not 0-4.

Sure! Let's call it that.
That way, NCSUx and dookie fans can no longer claim that "WRAL Loves the Tarheels" or "Butch Owns WRAL", or "Why Does WRAL Hate Us", or "WAAAAAAANNHHH!!!!!" anymore, agreed?
