UNC investigation gets complicated with Coples
Jun 1, 2011
Adam & Joe welcomed Y! Sports investigative reporter Charles Robinson on the program Tuesday and got a little more insight into the investigation of the UNC football program.
The investigation would have wrapped up in April if it had ended with Marvin Austin and Robert Quinn and the few others that created the need for the investigation last year. Thanks to Quinton Coples, social media and the quest for a good time, that investigation has now been extended.
I'm pretty sure that college athletes are specifically warned not to attend draft parties. The reasons why are innumerable, but let's just say agents, drink purchases, skipping on a cover charge...
The potential impact is great according to Robinson.
"I think things are going to get a little more serious for North Carolina now than they would have if that whole incident in April hadn't taken place," he said.
Now, Coples has not been proven to have done wrong to this point. He may or may not. The fact that the would-be-over investigation is not over, is not a good sign, though. Even worse sign, Robinson tells us that, members of the football staff have retained their own lawyers. You don't have to be close to the situation or even know law to know that is not a good thing.

I have a question since so many on these forums are "in the know". What does the hand gesture of cutting scissors mean? The high schoolers I know tell me it is when you respond to something someone said or did that was stupid. That doesn't seem to be the reason in this photo. So help me out, what does it mean? You ABCers will dance to any tune the media gives you huh?
You guys are crazy and I'm talking about the reporters. Some simple journalistic integrity would've made you do a little research. Let me help you out.1. THERE IS NO RULE against rising Seniors attending a draft party. NONE, ZERO, ZILCH.
2. THERE IS NO RULE AGAINST RISING SENIORS from having contact. That player can't take anything BUT, he is allowed to talk to him.
3. The party in question was free to the public and it's been free to the public every Thursday til 11pm. It was as much a draft party as NC State Basketball is a FF threat.
Maybe Carolina gets hit for the Austin thing as in having to forfeit games from the 09 season (darn, I have to give back that Tire Bowl runners up T-shirt? The humanity!) BUT, guys are reaching on the Coples thing. Unless Robinson has some info he'd like to share then he should either spit it or shut his trap.
Most of these guys who are reporting this don't know anymore than you do...

This would make a great "REALLY" segment on SNL's weekend update. Where are Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers when you need them.- Posted by ncst805
REALLY QUINTON COPELS?
Or even Jane Curtain SNL Weekend Update.

Butch has to resign. As long as he is coach, the NCAA and WRAL will make sure that the program is ruined along with Butch Davis. Sorry Butch, I have supported you all along because you didn't know, but even if that is true, it is probably time. The local media and NCAA will not rest until you are history, and the program cannot pay that price with you.- Posted by bh4
That said, let's stop recruiting our players out of Dr. Dre videos. We don't have to have hoodlums to have a middle-of-the-road football program, which is exactly what we are.
I typically proceed "with caution" with significant issues and matters. I have done that with regard to the UNC "situation" and Butch Davis, but I am rapidly approaching the limit of my patience and "caution". The "situation" and I have reached the point where I feel it is an appropriate question to ask if, regardless of whether Davis "knew" or not... UNC is better off with or without Davis. Actually I have reached my limit, because I believe that UNC needs a new Head Coach in football. His "fault" or not, even if it is not and even with some understanding that no one can control 24/7 the behavior and decision-making of 17 to 22 year old young men with testosterone that is "off the charts", egos so large that it is difficult for two or more of them to be in Kenan Stadium at the same time, etc., etc. I've patiently given the "benefit of doubt" to all concerned - from the top down - Holden Thorp - Dick Baddour - Butch Davis. I do not see how Butch Davis can be an effective coach from this point on. Thorp and Baddour need to "make the decision" - that is what they are paid the "big bucks" to do. Do it and let's get on with repairing the damage. And, henceforth, stop recruiting the likes of Austin, Little, others - including Coples. NO ONE - NO ONE who is willing to basically destroy a season for their teammates and coaching staff and tarnish the reputation of "their" University, for the sake of getting a little "bling" and appearing to "look cool" in some photos, deserves to even darken the door of UNC-Chapel Hill. Butch Davis, as Head Football Coach, at UNC-Chapel Hill is indeed "tarnished". It is time...
