Facing their second elimination game in three days, the North Carolina coaching staff has named Greg Holt the starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against Vanderbilt at the College World Series.

Holt has played in 32 games this season but has made only one start on the mound for the Tar Heels. The senior went 5.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits while walking four and striking out six against Miami in the opening game of the ACC Tournament. The start will be the fourth of Holt's career.

North Carolina lost to Vanderbilt 7-3 in the opening round of the College World Series. The re-match is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:10 from Ameritrade Park in Omaha.

Down 5-0 in the 4th. Maybe I was wrong and he should have started Munnelly haha.

It was either Greg Holt or Chris Munnelly, couldn't go wrong either way. We have to get those bats going with runners in scoring position.

Go Heels!!!

Greg really is the best pitcher available. Though he only started one game he has pitched a lot and has been effective. This will likely be a whole staff game so the starter doesn't have to give you very many innings. The only other weekend starter is Chris Munnelly but Holt has been better than him this year. I think coach Fox is making a good decision.

Can't say that I follow college baseball that closely, but I find it strange that you would go with a guy with only one start for an elimination game. Seems like the aces of the staff should have had adequate rest by now. Are they in the bullpen if this guy falters? If they are, why not start one of them? Your bullpen is certainly rested on the heels (no pun intended) of a complete game performance against Texas.
