Austin's tweets providing plenty of frosting, not much cake

Marvin Austin followed up last week's Michael McAdoo inspired Twitter binge with a few more vague references to knowing all the facts regarding the NCAA investigation into North Carolina.

On Saturday, Austin called out Chance Miller, the NCAA's Assistant Director of Agent, Gambling and Amateurism Activities. He referenced  Miller's interview techniques, saying they were "unconstitutional" and that he "enjoys baiting 20 year old student athletes." Austin then accused the NCAA of  fueling speculation in the media to manipulate public perception and telling players they don't need an attorney for interviews. For good measure, he said the NCAA was "full of crooks."

On Monday, Austin took exception to the idea that he had no "dirt" on North Carolina head coach Butch Davis, telling one of his Twitter followers to believe what he wants, but that "facts are facts." He then made these curious tweets:

"Yea just like jim tresel, bruce pearl, rich rodrigez, and jim colhone didn't know...just face it to be an elite in college athletics. U gotta bend the rules..oh yea let's not forget oregon and auburn....yea butch has only been coachin for 20 year"

If one were to run that through the Fanslator™, Austin seems to imply that Davis knew of the shenanigans in Chapel Hill. Thing is, we won't really know what he means until he does another interview. Maybe he's motivated enough by his anger to actually "spill the beans" this time. Maybe Austin is just enjoying the attention again.

It's a legitimate question to ask because Austin had the opportunity to tell the players' side of the story on Outside The Lines back in April. He told ESPN that schools needed to do what they had to do in order to compete. Reporter Kelly Naqi put Austin on the spot with a series of followup questions over illegal benefits. He eventually mumbled his way through a non-answer when asked directly about said benefits at North Carolina.

Austin has an opportunity to expose a system the he feels screwed his teammates. From the NCAA to the North Carolina administration, he is clearly jaded by how things went down last season. But it's hard to take him seriously when all he seems interested in doing is providing sugary Twitter blasts without much substance.

How about helping an Oldtimer out? What does lcd'ers stand for? I know the acronym ABC'ers, but am unfamiliar with lcd'ers. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Count me as another old timer, I thought "lcd" stood for "liquid crystal display" tv, and I'm proud to know that. Maybe forautumn will offer a translation soon.

In the meantime, let's guess....I'll start: "Lame Carolina Defenders"

RE: Austin's tweets providing plenty of frosting, not much cake

Remember how everyone tried to "blow off" Jose Canseco as a publicity seeking liar. Funny thing happened on the way to the critical reviews. He was telling alot of truth. Sure, there may be some hyperbole in there, but his overall story was pretty close to the truth. I am a Carolina fan and I really wish Marvin Austin would crawl back under the rock from where he came, but he isn't going to. Just because he may have an overactive sense of self-importance does not mean he is lying. As a Tar Heel fan, it absolutely pains me to say that, but as more and more of the layers get pulled back, there seems to be even more that the school has conveniently left out. I have said it before, I will say it again, the only way to make this even close to right is for Dick Baddour and Butch Davis to resign. As Harry Truman said, the buck stops here. Baddour, as leader of the athletic department that has a cheating scandal and academic fraud under his watch, should resign. Butch Davis had a coach and lead recruiter on his staff with ties to an agent that were/are wayyy to strong and obvious to ignore or to "have no knowledge of", should resign. We are going to get hit pretty hard from the NCAA as it is, so let's rip off the band-aid and try to let the long healing process begin.

Cute...so just because Canseco is right, Austin might be as well, huh? Interesting logic.

you seem to be more in tune with "it is really bad" crowd. You can join them if you want. I'll let the investigations and facts lead the way, you feel free to join the "i hope it is bad" and "it has got to be terrible" crowd.

and you have joined the list of heels fans that direct most of their blog time trying to "let the facts lead the way" and pooh pooh any valid points made by posters who dont fall in line with your view....you are part of the "nothing to see here" heels crowd...the tarheel Drebbin damage control blog squad......LMAO!!!!

Yes we know, every program cheats..that's all we've heard since UNC got busted. Surely we don't expect arrogant, clueless fans like yourself to accept responsibility for what YOUR program has done, not everyone else's.

I notice you seem to thrive on name calling....nice.

People have noticed you now...you can calm down.

why are you obsessed with attention, its called a blog for reason, you type. you're the one who seems all defensive every time someone mentions the football team..god forbid anyone say something negative about them.

Not at all...I have had plenty bad to say about them.

it is the fringe that I find so amusing....the talk of rampant fraud, bringing the athletic department don't, high administrators involved, cover up money...silly stuff like that.

what is silly is to dismiss it as an impossiblility

RE: Austin's tweets providing plenty of frosting, not much cake

I have no doubt that Marvin Austin "knows some things"... some things merely interesting, some things incriminating, some things that are both interesting and incriminating, but all VERY EMBARRASSING for UNC!!! I am a UNC grad - 3 times, 3 degrees - and from the first day he has been at UNC, via his behavior both on and off the field, he has been an embarrassment to UNC as an academic institution of higher education. Austin, and several others in his cohort, should NEVER have been admitted to the University. It has become evident that Austin was NEVER at UNC to increase his level of education or to earn a degree. He was there for ONE reason... to play football and advance to the NFL. Such individuals should not be admitted to any college/university!
