Stuart Scott to get Jimmy V award
Jul 27, 2011
University of North Carolina graduate and famed ESPN personality Stuart Scott will be honored with the 2011 Spirit of Jimmy V Award at the annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic on Aug. 27.
The award, named for the late NC State coach Jimmy Valvano, honors people who are dedicated to the fight against cancer and personify Valvano's famed "Don't Ever Give Up" spirit.
Scott is in his second battle with cancer. He has participated in the golf event 15 of the 17 years.
“Thank you so very much. I am honestly overwhelmed at this honor,” said Scott. “I used to interview Coach Valvano back in the late 1980's. He was one Wolfpack guy that even Carolina guys loved. I've been blessed to have been a part of The V Foundation family for years; it just got more personal 3 years ago. And now once again I get asked a lot 'How can you be so positive and energetic?' like I did something special. No. I just listened to what Coach V said 18 years ago..."Don't give up… Don't ever give up!"
In addition to the honor, a grant will be named in Scott’s honor at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center at UNC. The grant will fund pediatric cancer research focused on Ewing’s sarcoma, a malignant tumor found in bone tissue.
The golf tournament will be held at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the Centennial Campus of NC State on Sunday, Aug. 28.

BUTCH DAVIS GOT FIRED!!!! WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
LOL
I posted this without reading the article. If I had known Stuart Scott was a cancer survivor, I would not have posted this.
I was just happy yesterday. :)
We understand. Red Rage can easily obliterate common sense, as has been demonstrated here ad infinitum.

To repeat what I said in my post above (that apparrently lmartin was unable to read thru his Red Rage 3D ABC-hater Butch-Got-Fired glasses)...."I didn't know Stuey had cancer, I sure hope he beats it."Just never cared for his on-air persona. Deal with it.

Best of luck to Stuart Scott in his battle and hopeful recovery.Cancer knows no loyalty. It is an evil, unfair disease, and it's touched way to many people close to me (in fact, it continues to do so). My heartfelt prayers and best wishes to anyone with this awful disease.
Honestly, once again GoLower does just that. There have been innumerable UNC-connected folks that have had very large parts of the Jimmy V events through the years, and if they and the NC State people and the Duke people and the Wake Forest people and the whatever-other-school-you-wanna-name people don't care, I don't see why anyone else would, even the insignificant Sports Legend from Raleigh.
