— The Carolina Hurricanes had a full roster at practice Monday, including all three goaltenders after Cam Ward's recall. Meanwhile, current No. 1 Anton Khudobon was honored by the league.

Khudobin was named the league’s First Star for the month of January after he matched a franchise record with 10 wins. He also boasted a 2.19 goals against average and .927 save percentage in just 14 games.

Much of Monday focused on special teams, power play and individual battle drills.

Eric Staal talked about the month of January, saying, "It was a good month and the confidence should be high in here. We need to continue to build on that if we do the same things we have been doing consistently over the next stretch of games to finish the season we'll be in a good spot."

On playing a former coach Paul Maurice, Stall added, "I think any night, no matter what, you are going to compete as best you can regardless."

Who knows if he stopped it. His eyes might be closed due to the stick to the groin.

Dobi was selected as the best player in the month of January. Coaches always ride the hot hand. In this case, it's Dobi without a doubt. Ward is a great guy and had a great run with the Canes. But he has been inconsistent and injured quite a bit in the last two years. It would be managerial insanity not to start Dobi as much as possible while he's playing at this high level.

Cam's a great guy...hate to see him in this position. Will be nervous to see him in net. He's going to have to prove his worth very quickly, unfortunately.

  • StunGunn Feb 4, 2014

Don't think he's playing tonight; the latest is he'll play one of the back-to-back games later in the week.

Great picture of Cam. It shows he can stop pucks with his eyes closed. Let's hope he's got that little tidbit corrected.

No way, Cam ward definitely needs to start; in Charlotte; Peters deserves better. They need to trade or cut Ward.

He was 10-4 with a .928 sv% for starts in January so he is playing very well. It really does not matter who the "#1 Goalie" is at this point. All that matters is wins and losses. Cam needs to improve his game and get his confidence back. It will take two healthy goalies to endure a playoff run.

With this said, it should be pointed out that the Hurricanes have completely redone their lines multiple times this year and moved to a faster pace with puck moving defence. This changes the play of the goalie in that it presents a fair amount of 1-1 and 2-1 break away situations. A goalie has to be healthy and confident to be successful in this scheme.

I heard Cam is playing tomorrow, and that's a shame considering how well Khudobin has been playing.

Do we want to make the playoffs or not? I do not believe we have a chance with Ward in net? Stats don't lie.
