— Duke University sophomore Alexis Jones and the 2013 USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Championship Team will open action on Thursday against host Lithuania at 11:00 a.m. (EDT). All games will be played in Klaipeda and Panevėžys, Lithuania.

Jones, who is a product of Midland, Texas, will be going for her third gold medal with USA Basketball this summer as she won the gold in 2011 with the U19 National Team and in 2010 with the U18 National Team.

The 5-8 guard is coming off a standout freshman campaign with the Blue Devils. Jones took over the point guard slot following Chelsea Gray’s injury in February and flourished. She averaged 13.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.3 steals in the final 11 games for the Blue Devils.

Jones earned ACC Tournament MVP accolades, after leading Duke to its eighth ACC Championship averaging 17.7 points, 6.0 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals. She notched 24 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists in the ACC title game versus North Carolina to help clinch the championship. She finished the season with a team-best 144 assists. Jones was a Full Court Freshman All-America, All-ACC Freshman Team, All-ACC Academic Team and Norfolk Regional All-Tournament selection.

Following the opener against Lithuania, Jones and the U19 squad will next face China on Friday, July 19 at 1:15 p.m., and then take on Mali on Saturday, July 20 at 1:15 p.m. The top three finishing teams from each preliminary round pool will advance to the second round to form two groups of six teams. Each team will play games against the three teams it has not already faced in preliminary play. Results from the first round carry over to the second round.

The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be held July 26-28. The U19 team is coached by Duke University alumna and current head coach at Miami Katie Meier.
