WBB: NC State Falls 81-69 at Boston College

— NC State made a furious second-half comeback but came up short in an 81-69 loss at Boston College Thursday night from Conte Forum.

A duel between the top two three-point shooting teams in the ACC lived up to its advanced billing. The clubs combined for 16 field goals from beyond the arc, including nine from NC State (10-12, 2-8 ACC).

Myisha Goodwin-Coleman led the Pack with 17 points on a career-high five three-pointers. Kody Burke had 16 points and a team-leading seven rebounds, and Marissa Kastanek added 15 points to move into 14th on the school's career scoring list, passing Ginger Rouse (1978-82).

Trailing by 13 points at halftime, NC State limited Boston College to just two field goal in the first nine minutes of the second half, allowing NC State to come all the way back to take a 50-49 lead with 11:12 left after a three-ball from Goodwin-Coleman.

Burke canned a three in the corner at 9:13 to make it 55-54 Pack. Goodwin-Coleman drained her fifth three-pointer of the game for a 58-56 lead, but all the work it took to get back in the game was undone when BC scored the next 17 points to lead 73-58 with 2:40 left.

State never got closer than 10 the rest of the way in falling to the Eagles for the first time since January of 2011.

Kerri Shields led Boston College (9-11, 3-6 ACC) with 20 points on 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Kristen Doherty and Tessah Holt each had 16 for the Eagles.

Boston College jumped out to an 18-7 lead after a three-pointer from Shields, forcing State to call a timeout to slow the Eagles momentum early on in the first half.

It worked as Goodwin-Coleman connected from downtown for the second time in the opening half on the ensuing possession out of the timeout. Kastanek did the same after a between the legs pass from Goodwin-Coleman made it 18-13 Eagles with 10 minutes until halftime.

Kastanek got State within five, 31-26 on another three-pointer, but Shields drained two from beyond the arc, and Boudreau sandwiched a triple between the two by Shields and the lead grew to 42-26.

Kastanek scored the last five points for State in the half to cut the deficit to 44-31 at intermission. BC shot 54.8 percent in the half, including 6-of-12 from distance. NC State was at 37 percent and 5-of-11 from three-point land.

NC State hosts Wake Forest on Sunday at 2 p.m. All tickets on Super Bowl Sunday are $1.
