WBB: Shaw's Mitchell, Hatcher and Curtis earn CIAA Weekly Honors

Shaw University’s Diamond Mitchell, Ariel Hatcher and head coach Jacques Curtis have all earned CIAA weekly honors for their performances in games ending January 25.
Guard Diamond Mitchell (Sr., San Diego, CA) was named Player of the Week. This is her second straight week earning this honor. She had a 23-point performance in a rout of Winston-Salem State Wednesday night. On Saturday, she had 13 points and eight assists as the Lady Bears downed Saint Augustine's. On the week, she averaged seven assists per game and six rebounds per game.
Forward Ariel Hatcher (Sr. Detroit, MI) had a strong week in Shaw's two wins. Against Winston-Salem State, she had 23 points coming off the bench. She averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
One week after claiming his 300th win, Jacque Curtis kept a steady hand on the rudder as the Lady Bears downed Winston-Salem State by 44 points, 93-49. In a hard-fought game against cross-town rival Saint Augustine's, Curtis' Lady Bears used a second-half run to build a lead, finally finishing with a 67-56 win.
The Lady Bears are 13-6 on the season, 7-2 in the CIAA and 3-0 in the Southern Division. Weather permitting, they will travel to Fayetteville State for a 5:30 game Wednesday, then return home Saturday for a contest against Johnson C. Smith at 2:00 p.m.
