— Blue Devil senior Lindy Duncan and Erynne Lee closed the women’s competition of the 2013 Copa de las Americas with a final round of 148 and captured the women’s title by one stroke over Canada on Sunday at the Doral Resort and Spa in Miami, Fla.

Duncan and Lee combined for a four-day total of 597 as Lee carded a 291 and Duncan with a 306, after posting rounds of 76, 78, 76 and 76. Canada (598), Mexico (603), Colombia (614) and Argentina (619) rounded out the top five teams. The USA has won three consecutive women’s championships (2007, 2010, 2013).

In the overall standings, both the U.S. and Mexico came on strong in the final round but Canada came away with a one stroke victory over Mexico and two strokes over the United States. Canada totaled a four-day ledger of 1,177, while Mexico (1178), United States (1179), Colombia (1203), Argentina (1203) and Trinidad and Tobago (1250) rounded out the field.

Canada took the Copa trophy for a third time, adding to wins in 2003 and 2005. The United States won the two most recent playings of the Copa, in 2007 and 2010. The Copa de las Americas is an amateur team competition for countries in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.
