Women's U.S. Open: Wie holds lead with pair of 68s

Posted June 20, 2014

— The world's No. 1 player, Stacy Lewis, showed why she was worthy of the ranking Thursday in the opening round of the Women's U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 as she shot a 3-under 67 to lead the field.

But Michelle Wie answered with a pair of 68s in the first two rounds to hold down the lead headed into the weekend.

Nice job in explaining things about this newly reconstructed course and redesign. One of the best in the Country. I would love to see Wie continue to play well.

It's not run-down... it's actually a completely reconstructed course. Pinehurst is in the Sandhills of NC, and the course was designed to look like the beautiful landscape of the natural land that inspired the original location of the course. It has had the "Trump" look for many years. Beautifully manicured grass has it's own artificial look. I love the natural look of sand and saw-grass.

According to this story all the golfers were able to finish early Friday because of early tee times. This is either a typo or you guys are fixing the results. No excuse for shoddy facts in your stories WRAL...even if it is something as unimportant as women's golf.

Why does this golf course look so run down on tv? My husband played at a donald Trump golf course and it was much more beautiful, maintained etc. Pinehearst just looks like a sandy mess IMO. If they put in some sod maybe that would help.
