East Carolina head football coach Ruffin McNeill confirmed Thursday that junior wide receiver Danny Webster has officially been dismissed from the Pirate program after a recent arrest that followed prior team rule violations.

"Because of the history involved with Danny, we really do not have any other option than to dismiss him from the team," McNeill said. "Our top priority is to remain consistent with values that define the foundation of our program and with that comes a level of accountability."

Webster, who missed the season opener against Appalachian State in 2012 and the final eight games of the 2013 season because of suspensions for separate team rule violations, finished his ECU career with 95 catches for 894 yards in 28 games dating back to 2011.

It is a shame because he was a talented receiver. He threw it all away. Most of the Pirate Nation knows about what he did to put himself in this position. He suffered the consequences for his actions.

Coach Ruff doesn't mess around when they break the rules. He's consistent in dealing with his players. I respect this.
