— The NC State wrestling team picked up wins at 157 and 174 pounds at No. 11 Virginia Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough as the Cavs downed the visiting Wolfpack in an ACC dual, 32-7.

The dual meet started at 125 pounds, as No. 9 Matt Snyder of Virginia scored a decision over junior Joe DeAngelo, 6-0. #11 George DiCamillo of UVA followed suit at 133 pounds, with a 6-1 decision over freshman Sam Speno.

The Cavs recorded a fall at 141 pounds, with Joseph Spisak earning a pin over freshman Tyler Hunt at 0:38.

Sophomore Thomas Gantt narrowly lost to No. 14 Derek Valenti at 149 pounds, 7-6. After a pair of points for stalling against Valenti, the match ended 6-6. But with ride time, Gantt fell by a single point.

At 157 pounds, junior Matt Nereim picked up an 8-7 decision over the Cavs’ Blaise Butler. With less than a minute to go, the score was tied 6-6. A stall point was awarded to Butler, but Nereim hit a late single and picked up the win for NC State.

In a match of ranked opponents at 165 pounds, UVA’s No. 7 Nick Sulzer scored a major decision over No. 20 Nijel Jones, 12-4

Freshman Patrick Davis picked up the Pack’s second victory of the meet with a 15-4 major decision over Dusty Floyd at 174 pounds. Davis led from start to finish, to pick up his first career ACC victory and close the Pack’s gap to 19-7.

Virginia then posted back-to-back technical fall wins. Stephen Doty scored a 17-0 technical fall over freshman Keegan Cerwinski at 184 pounds, while Mike Salopek downed sophomore Bill Cook, 17-2.

Virginia closed the dual meet with Derek Papagianopoulos earning a 7-4 decision over freshman Mike Kosoy at 285 pounds.

The Pack will return to action with a trip to ACC foe North Carolina on Friday at 7 p.m.
