Davidson, N.C. — The NC State wrestling team picked up a pair of dual meet victories Sunday afternoon, defeating Ohio Northern, 32-11, and then Davidson, 37-9. Of the 20 total matches, the Pack was awarded 15 victories, 10 bonus point wins.
The Pack started its afternoon against Ohio Northern, and registered six straight wins to start the dual meet. Joe DeAngelo (8-2) and Sam Speno (7-4) picked up decisions at 125 pounds and 133 pounds. Tyler Hunt scored a 17-1 technical fall at 141 pounds, followed by a Thomas Gantt 12-6 decision at 149 pounds. Matt Nereim recorded a second technical fall for the Pack, 22-5, at 157 pounds, and Nijel Jones scored a 14-4 major decision at 165 pounds.
After the first six bouts, the Pack was ahead 23-5.
Keegan Cerwinski recorded a pin at 184 pounds,and Mike Kosoy earned a 3-2 decision at 285 pounds to close out the 32-11 win over Ohio Northern.
The Pack then turned around to face host Davidson, but easily dispatched of the Wildcats 37-9.
NC State was awarded three forfeit wins, at 125, 165 and 197 pounds to make up 18 of its 37 points in the win.
Hunt earned his second bonus points win of the day, scoring a major decision at 141 pounds, 14-3. Gantt scored another decision at 149 pounds, 11-6, and Nereim recorded his fifth straight win at 157 pounds, pinning Nathaniel Powers just 23 seconds into the match.
After the first six bouts against Davidson, the Pack was in command at 25-3.
Kosoy once again closed out the dual meet with with a win for the Pack, pinning Eddie Isola at 285 pounds at the 1:16 mark.
NC State will hold its final dual meet of the season this Wednesday, when the Pack hosts ACC rival Duke at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
