Durham, N.C. —
Duke head women’s tennis coach Jamie Ashworth announced on Friday that sophomore Beatrice Capra has been dismissed from the university for violation of school policy and will not be eligible for the 2013 season. She will be eligible to return to Duke in the fall of 2013.
“As you can imagine, this is an unfortunate event for Beatrice and our entire team,” Ashworth said. “I know that Beatrice will return to Duke as soon as possible having learned from this incident, and she will be better and stronger because of it. Our team, support staff, and all those around the Duke women’s tennis program support her one hundred percent and look forward to having her back on campus.”
A native of Ellicott City, Md., Capra earned All-America and ACC Player of the Year honors in 2012 after posting records of 32-5 in singles and 33-10 in doubles. Capra tallied a perfect 9-0 singles record in ACC regular season competition, leading the Blue Devils to their eighth ACC championship in program history while also garnering ITA National Co-Rookie of the Year, ACC Freshman of the Year and ACC Tournament Most Valuable Player honors.
