— No. 7 North Carolina lost a tough 4-3 women's tennis match at No. 17 Clemson on Saturday afternoon at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Center.

North Carolina (23-4, 12-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) had its 12-match winning streak snapped and in the process fell back into a tie for second in the ACC standings alongside Clemson with a 12-2 league mark.

12-1 Virginia plays at 11-2 Miami on Sunday. A victory by the Hurricanes would create a four-way tie for first in the ACC. Official pairings and tournament details will be revealed at the conclusion of play on Sunday evening.

Clemson (20-5, 12-2) trailed, 3-0, after the Tar Heels took the doubles point and later won singles matches at court two and one, respectively by freshmen Hayley Carter and Jamie Loeb.

The Tigers picked up a win on court four to make it 3-1, but it appeared that No. 46 Caroline Price was about to seal the victory for Carolina on court four. However, Beatrice Gumulya would not be denied, winning the third set 7-6 (8-6) to officially swing momentum in favor of Clemson, who now only trailed 3-2 with matches remaining on courts five and six.

When Jessy Rompies held off Carolina's Kate Vialle, 7-6 (7-3) in the first set on court six, it became apparent that the Tigers had a chance to come all the way back for an unlikely victory over the Tar Heels.

Clemson would even the match 3-all with a victory on court six, and officially completed the comeback when Rompies won 6-2 in the second set over Vialle.

The Tar Heels took the doubles point by winning on courts one and two. Clemson took the decision on court three, but that was the lone victory the Tigers would claim in doubles. Loeb and Carter, the third-ranked doubles tandem nationally, won 8-3 on court one and No. 15 Price and Whitney Kay made it 1-0 Heels with an 8-6 win on court two.

Carter's singles victory on Saturday gave the sixth-ranked player a 41-6 regular season record, 11-2 in the ACC. Meanwhile, top-ranked Loeb finished 14-0 in ACC play and is 45-2 overall heading into the postseason. The two also went unblemished in doubles play inside the league, finishing up 8-0 in the ACC and are 29-3 overall.

Price and Vialle both lost in league matches for just the second time all year on Saturday. Price is 11-2 in the ACC and 20-4 overall, while Vialle went 12-2 in the league and 16-5 overall.

ACC Tournament pairings will be announced on Sunday evening. Tournament action begins in Cary, N.C, on Thursday.
