Junior Marianne Jodoin won in her third and final match of the group stage, but failed to advance out of the group in the United States Tennis Association’s Collegiate Invitational on Sunday. Jodoin ended the weekend with a 2-1 record in the first round, while sophomore Annie Mulholland went 1-2 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Portland, Ore.

Jodoin, a native of Varennes, Quebec, faced Claire Liu in her third match of the group stage and downed the junior athlete from the USTA, 7-6(1), 6-3. Despite winning two games in the group stage, Jodoin lost the head-to-head tiebreaker with Grace Ysidora of Washington after losing to Ysidora on Saturday.

With the weekend, Jodoin currently owns a 6-6 on this fall for Duke including a 3-3 record against nationally ranked opponents - highlighted by a win over No. 71 Caroline Price at the Duke Fab 4 Invitational. Twenty-seventh ranked Jodoin joined the Blue Devils this season after playing for two years at Fresno State where she tallied a 37-10 overall record in singles and a perfect 14-0 record in conference play. Jodoin earned WAC Player of the Year twice, a two-time First Team All-WAC and WAC All-Tournament team in both singles and doubles while at Fresno State.

Mulholland, ranked 108th in the country, was outlasted by USTA junior athlete Jenny Brady on Sunday, 7-6(4), 6-2 and now owns a 5-5 singles record and a 9-3 doubles record on the season, after going 2-1 in doubles play this weekend.

The Blue Devils are next slated to take to the courts on November 8th as junior Hanna Mar and sophomore Ester Goldfeld travel to New York for the ITA National Indoors. Mar and Goldfeld qualified for the event after Mar won the singles event and Mar and Goldfeld teamed up to take the doubles title at the ITA Regional Tournament.

Mulholland, Jodoin and senior Mary Clayton are schedule to begin play at the Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Nov. 9-11.
