WTEN: Loeb Ranked No. 1 Singles Player by ITA

— North Carolina freshman Jamie Loeb is the No. 1 ranked women's tennis player in the country, according to the latest ITA Rankings released on Tuesday night.

Carolina is sixth in the team rankings, and is one of seven ACC programs in the top 25.

Loeb, who is 26-2 on the year, becomes the first player in program history to earn the #1 singles ranking by the ITA. The Ossining, N.Y., product is one of five Tar Heel players in the singles rankings this week.

On the strength of her 26-5 record, classmate Hayley Carter checks in eighth in the singles rankings.

Caroline Price enters the 2014 rankings at No. 67. She is 8-2 on the season, including 5-1 in dual matches this spring.

Whitney Kay moves up to 69th, while Ashley Dai rounds out the Carolina five at No. 106.

In doubles, Kay and Price are 12th, while Loeb and Carter are one spot behind in 13th.
