Junior Hanna Mar fell to No. 22 Anett Schutting of California in the quarterfinals at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championship on Friday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. After winning her round of 16 matchup earlier in the day, Mar was unable to advance in the tournament, and now owns a 13-3 record this fall, including a 5-2 slate against ranked opponents.

In the round of 16, Mar jumped out to an early lead against No. 41 Katie Le of Santa Clara, and topped Le, 6-3, 6-4. In the quarterfinal, Mar, who is ranked 35th in the preseason polls, was unable to slow Schutting, eventually falling, 6-1, 6-1.

While Mar was representing the Blue Devils in New York, three Blue Devils went undefeated at the Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Senior Mary Clayton, junior Marianne Jodoin and sophomore Annie Mulholland all advanced to the semifinals of their respective brackets after each winning two singles matches.

In the White Draw, No. 27 Jodoin had her serve broken early in the match against Karli Timko of Mashall, but was able to rally to claim the match, 6-2, 6-4. In the quarterfinals, Jodoin cruised past Steph Falcon of UNC-Greensboro, 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals on Saturday, where she is slated to face Anik Cepeda of William & Mary.

In the Blue Draw, No. 44 Mary Clayton bested Illinca Stoica of Virgina Tech, 6-2, 6-3 before dropping Marshall’s Dominik Zaprazna, 6-3, 6-1. Clayton is slated to face Tessa Lyons of North Carolina in the semifinal match on Saturday.

Annie Mulholland, who is also in the Blue Draw, overcame early struggles to defeat Maria Voscekova of Marshall, 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round before downing Maria Fuccillo of Virginia, 6-3, 6-2. Mulholland is set to face Lauren McHale of North Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m.

In doubles action, the duo of Clayton and Mulholland outlasted Niltooli Wilkins and Alex Whitehead of UNC-Greensboro, 8-6 in the first round and are scheduled to play Dominik Zapranzna and Maria Voscekova of Marshall on Saturday at 9 a.m.
