— The Duke women’s tennis team cruised on the second and final day of the Hawaii Invitational Thursday after going a perfect 6-0 in singles matches, and 3-0 in doubles matches. The third-ranked Blue Devils went 17-0 in the invitational, only dropping one set in those matches. The Blue Devils enter the dual-match slate after tallying a 57-24 record in singles and a 26-8 ledger in doubles this season.

The second day of the invitational kicked off with three doubles matches Thursday afternoon. The duo of junior Hanna Mar and sophomore Monica Turewicz took an early 3-2 lead in their match against Katarina Poljakova and Xenia Suworowa, and just as the tandem from Hawaii threatened to level the match, Mar ripped a ball down the line past Suworowa to win the game. Mar and Turewicz continued their solid play winning the match 8-2.

In other doubles action, Senior Mary Clayton and Ester Goldfeld topped Martina Kostalova and Paulina Petriskova, 8-4, while sophomore Annie Mulholland and junior Marianne Jodoin played aggressively at the net to overwhelm Rebecca Faltusz and Kelly Domingo, 8-0.

Following a perfect 3-0 start to the day in doubles, the Blue Devils took to the court for their singles matches where Turewicz cruised past Faltusz, 6-0, 6-0, in just her second singles match since the NCAA tournament last spring. Jodoin, ranked No. 63 in the first ITA rankings of the year, topped Petriskova, 6-2, 6-0 in straight sets, while Mulholland bested Kelsey Daguio, 6-2, 6-2.

Mar, the tenth-ranked player in the country, took the first set over Poljakova, and was able to overcome a 2-1 deficit in the second set to win the match, 6-1, 6-2. In her match, Clayton took the first set against Kostalova, and in the second, hit an outstanding lob to take a 4-0 lead, eventually topping Kostalova, 6-2, 6-0.

In the final match of the day, No. 40 Goldfeld dropped the first set to Suwurowa, and was down 1-0 in the second set. Goldfeld was able to battle back winning the next two games, and eventually broke serve to go up 5-2. Goldfeld was able to close out the set, and rolled in the third set, 6-0 to clinch the victory as well as the perfect record for the Blue Devils.

The Hawaii Invitational was the final opportunity for the Blue Devils to compete before the open their dual-match schedule Jan. 19 against William & Mary. The No. 3 Blue Devils will remain in Hawaii until Jan. 13, so check GoDuke.com Friday and Saturday for updates on the trip.
