WTEN: No. 64 Wolfpack Edged by No. 13 Miami

Raleigh, N.C. — The NC State women’s tennis team was edged 7-0 by the No. 13 Miami Hurricanes on Sunday at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium.
The Wolfpack falls to 7-4 (1-3 ACC) while Miami improves to 9-2 (5-0 ACC).
Facing two doubles teams ranked in the top 50 in the nation, the Wolfpack battled hard but dropped the doubles point to the Hurricanes.
Elisha Hande and Nicole Martinez fell to the No. 24-ranked pair of Monica Albuquerque and Clementina Riobueno, 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Rachael-James Baker and Liza Fieldsend dropped an 8-4 decision on court three to Stephanie Wagner and Lina Lilekite, while Joelle Kissell and Sophie Nelson left their match against the No. 48-ranked duo of Melissa Bolivar and Kelsey Laurente, unfinished at 7-6.
In singles play, Kissell, playing from the No. 1 position, dropped a hard-fought, three set match to No. 71 Wagner, 7-5, 1-6, 0-1 (6-10), while James-Baker fell at the hands of the No. 40-ranked Laurente, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.
Martinez was tripped up by Clementina Riobueno, 6-0, 6-2 on court three, while Fieldsend lost to Lilekite, 7-5, 6-1 on court four. Natalia Janowicz, playing No. 5 singles, dropped her match to Bolivar, 6-3, 6-2 while Hande came up short from the No. 6 slot, falling to Albuquerque, 6-2, 6-1.
The Wolfpack will continue its five-match home stand next on March 22 against No. 30 Florida State.
