Posted April 29, 2014
For the 12th time in the last 13 seasons and the 10th time under head coach Brian Kalbas, the North Carolina women's tennis team has been awarded a home regional and a national seed for the NCAA Division I Team Championship, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
The Tar Heels are the No. 7 seed in the 2014 event and will welcome VCU, Tennessee and Georgia State to the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center May 9 and 10.
Carolina will face Atlantic-10 champion VCU at 1 p.m. on May 9. That match will follow the first-round meeting between Sun Belt champion Georgia State and SEC at-large selection Tennessee at 10 a.m. The two first-round winners will meet Saturday, May 10, at 3 p.m. for the right to advance to Athens, Ga., this year's final NCAA site.
Carolina is making its 16th consecutive appearance in the national tournament and 11th in a row under Kalbas. The Tar Heels have an all-time NCAA record of 29-15 and have advanced beyond the regional round on nine occasions, including last year's run to the NCAA quarterfinals.
Tickets for the event are $5. Children 6 & under are free. Gates will open one hour prior to play on both Friday and Saturday.
