— The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has announced the 2012 NCAA Division I Cross Country All-America teams, with two Blue Devils earning All-America recognition following Saturday’s season-ending NCAA Championships meet. Overall finish at the NCAA Championships is the determining factor as the top 40 individuals from both men’s and women’s races earn All-America plaudits from the USTFCCCA.

Sophomore Kelsey Lakowske and senior Juliet Bottorff each garnered the first All-America accolades of their respective collegiate cross country careers after leading the 10th-ranked Duke women to a seventh-place finish in the team standings last Saturday in Louisville. In her first NCAA Championships appearance, Lakowske took 20th overall in the field of 253 runners, recording a personal-best time of 20:03.4 on the 6K course at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. Bottorff joined Lakowske on the All-America team after crossing the line at 20:06.1 for a 27th-place finish. The Newark, Del., native moved up an impressive 33 spots from her last appearance at the national meet in 2010.

In addition to receiving All-America honors, Lakowske and Bottorff were also tabbed with All-Southeast Region and All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors during the course of the 2012 campaign. Bottorff was the Blue Devils’ top finisher at five meets on the season, with her highest finish coming in a second-place showing at the NCAA Southeast Region Championships. Lakowske paced the squad in two meets, turning in a sixth-place showing at the ACC Championships and taking ninth in the region while she and Bottorff also led the women to the 2012 NCAA Southeast Region title.
